Rio Grande Valley Muslim Community Warmth in Winter Power Outages

Recent Power Outages in Texas and the Rio Grande Valley offered life lessons to learn to so many of us. In “Rio Grande Valley Muslim Community Warmth In Winter Power Outages” I will try to shed some light on the effects of power outages due to winter storm in Texas and Rio Grande Valley and how the Muslim Community helped the community and the people in need with warmth of love and kindness.

Cold weather and freezing rain.

Power Outages In Texas

Recent winter and snow storm is leaving Texans in below freezing temperature and a lot of other issues. There are 500,000 individuals without power since this Monday early morning. Today is Thursday and The Electric Reliability Council Of Texas reported that it had made significant progress restoring customers’ power, although some outages still remain.

No Power No Water

As power is returning after 3 days, people are still without drinking water. Hundreds and thousands of home and businesses are dealing with bursts pipes and suggested boiling water. More than one million people have been affected by local water systems and water treatment facilities.

Shortage Of Gas

Power outage impacted the gas supplies. People are waiting in long lines around the gas stations.

Influenced by Storm And struggling For Food

Power outages has created food safety problems leaving many foods unsafe to eat. Texans are running out of food during power outage and weather crises.

Muslim Community In Rio Grande Valley

The Muslim community in RGV is showing enormous love, warmth and kindness in this power outage and weather crises.

According to KRGV,

Families have opened doors to their community members. They are offering free foods. Hot food and clean drinking water is being offered.

People are helping each other over all. Some families are sharing personalized help. They are providing heaters, hot food, groceries, drinking water and winter clothes.

To keep their friends and people of the community warm, families invited them to stay with them under their own roof, brought hot soup to the shelters, shared hot food and drinking water. Children shared their toys with their friends in need.

Our needs change with time. Only compassionate hearts can feel other individuals pain. Community is sponsoring food drives. They are sharing information required at this time. Knowledge is power and awareness initiates strength in us. There are a lot of efforts being made to learn to solve the problems and share those valuable info with the community.

I am so grateful to our community for showing unforgettable love and care for their community members!

Life is a lesson to learn and I learned so many lessons from this experience. I lived this experience moment by moment. I learned that:

  • Money can not buy all things
  • Love and care teaches love and care.
  • Real communities can only survive if they know how to stand with their other community members.
  • There is a real happiness in the passion and sacrifice that we offer to people around us.
  • We are one, our needs are same and we can only serve and understand our brothers and sisters if we feel their pain in the same way we feel our pain
  • Hard times also pass
  • If I am facing hard time I should ask for help
  • If someone is in need I should understand their need before they wrap it into words.
  • There is always first drop before rain starts. I can be that first person who takes initiative.
  • We should stand by our community and people around us.

May Allah blesses all of us and especially those who opened their hearts for others human beings!

Let’s stand together in all weathers!

The Conclusion Is That Winter Can Not Freeze the Warmth of The True Love For one another.

I pray to Allah Subhana Taala that he always keeps the love in our hearts as a part of our Emaan/belief! We must help each other for ever, Inshaallah!

May Allah grants us all, the perfect belief/Emaan with integrity, persistence and love for human beings and all living things.

Ameen!

Tonight’s weather,

If you have been through any hard times or the similar ones, what did you do and what did you learn from it?

Is Medical School Good For Me

Hi, High School Seniors, I can understand what you are going through. Classes, classwork, homework, tests, projects and grades. Yes, it’s true that being as a high school senior is not an easy place to be. On top of all these responsibilities, the other main question is, Which school should I go to? Career choice is one of the most important decisions of our life. Some of you have started asking, ‘Is Medical School Good For Me’? So, for all those who are thinking to navigate the medical field but are still not clear. I decided to write about, Is medical school good for me.

Which major Do I need for Medical School

My daughter is in senior year of her high school. She asks, which major do I need to take if I want to go to medical school, several times every week. We read, do research, and ask questions to different related people about it. Doctors, nurses, medical students, friends, friends’ moms, and social media are the main source of this information.

So, the answers mostly we get are that you can take any major. Yes, any major. Don’t get stuck. Any major is good at the time of admission to undergraduate studies.

Some people say that it is a good place to start to choose Biology a major if you are going to a medical school. Some other people think that human physiology is a perfect start. Other choices are Biochemistry, psychology, nursing, English, Biomedical engineering, and economics.

But the final thought is a flexible choice and any major. You can change it to the one that is more relevant down the road. At that time you will understand most of the courses and your inner voice in a better way.

What GPA is required to get into Medical School

This is the one of the important factors. Good GPA is always the best plus to have. From 3.8 to 4 is good. Besides good GPA, top colleges also look at academic record, special academic projects, and types of different courses. But many good medical schools require good GPA.

Some schools accept GPA at 3.00. But it doesn’t mean that you strive for 3. You always strive for higher GPA than it is required by most of the schools.

What is the best medical school in the USA

According to US News

The list goes like this:

  1. Harvard University
  2. Johns Hopkins Univrrsity
  3. University of Pennsylvania
  4. New York University
  5. Stanford university
  6. Columbia University

And than the list goes on.

Is it hard to get into Medical School

According to a research the best medical schools only accept 4% of applicants. Dr. Robert Hasty, founding dean and chief academic officer of the Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine, says one of the major reasons it is so difficult to get into medical school is that there has been growing interest in health care careers, which has led to a spike in the number of med school applications.

Best way to get Into Medical School

Getting into a medical school is competitive. The top ten tips from the doctors and students are:

  1. Get some medical experience on your resume
  2. Do some research projects
  3. Volunteer work matters a lot
  4. Excel in your major
  5. Apply to multiple schools. Its better if you are already in the University that has a medical school
  6. Study hard for medical test and MCAT
  7. Learn one or two other languages
  8. Pay attention to extra-curricular activities

How To Live Consciously As An Ambitious Immigrant In The USA

Why immigrant life matters and ‘How to Live Consciously as an Ambitious Immigrant in the US’ is very important question. According to one research in 2019, there are 90 million immigrant living in the US. Life is not just important due to the large number but its essence lies in quality. Abraham Lincoln said, “and at the end it’s not the years in your life that count; it’s the life in your years.”

What Is Immigration and Who Are Immigrants

According to Wikipedia, immigration is the international movement of people to a destination country of which they are not natives or where they do not posses citizenship in order to settle as permanent residents or naturalized citizens. A person who moves or leaves his own country to live to another country is called an immigrant.

Research shows that country of origin matters for speed and depth for immigrant assimilation and there is considerable assimilation overall for both first and second generation immigrants.

What is immigrant assimilation?

Immigrant Assimilation

According to Wikipedia, using data from the German Socio Economic Panel, it was concluded that there was a positive correlation between cultural assimilation and an immigrant’s life’s satisfaction/well-being.

Cultural assimilation and cultural shock are related terms. There is a huge literature and research data available for the topics. But from here, I would like to give it in your hands. It’s up to you, if you like to go with the concept and perspective of cultural assimilation after doing some study, research and thinking process. Do you agree that cultural assimilation happens to immigrants even if they like it or not, even if they know about it or not?

Cultural assimilation is a natural process that happens in an environment. The social environment or socio cultural context refers to the immediate social and physical setting in which people live.

Journal

That’s why It’s important to know and learn “How to Live Consciously as an Ambitious Immigrant in the US”?

Conscious living is an option. We all need to take that option but it is at least 100 times more important for immigrants to live consciously. Ambitions drive most of the immigrant to make positive changes to their lives, So they decide to become immigrants. Like every other drive ambitions should also be disciplined or under control. Living consciously can serve the purpose even though it’s hard to control the speed of ambitions.

How Does Conscious Living Start

Being conscious needs to be informed. Awareness needs effort. The effort we can put to learn different skills and habits. What is the drive to do the process? Or do we even need a drive? The answer for the fact lies inside of all of us. Are we willing? Yes, if we are willing to live consciously and we know the difference of living with or without it.

When are we in the best position of understanding the facts?

To understand something, we need to be prepared and learn about that thought or topic beforehand. Other option of learning comes after the process, whether it is a success or otherwise. Learning happens after we go through the process, for most of us. This is common learning.

The common learning can guide the person or an immigrant to take conscious steps further in life.

But on the other hand, if someone chooses the option of learning before all that starts, makes a huge difference and starts seeing the fruit of conscious living.

Informed decisions come from thinking. Thinking, learning and doing research about any matter before we decide, takes time, effort, patience and maturity. There are levels of thinking.

  • The first level is to observe and learn
  • Next level is Research, Read and Understand

After first two levels, our next step goes to action to make the thinking process deeper. What do you think we can do after first two levels?

You can guess or share your own experience or perspective.

But, are we going too deep into thinking?

Yes! So let’s do it quickly.

Go deep into thinking or understand how to think.

Are these two same things?

So, you see, what has just happened? We have started thinking.

What is this level that we just did?

May be applying our knowledge.

Yes.

So, after observing and understanding, we apply our info to understand more, go deep into thinking.

Application of knowledge and info brings the analysis level of thinking. This is how we can come to the next levels of any thinking process according to Bloom’s Taxonomy of Higher Order Thinking. So, all the levels are:

  • Observe and remember
  • Understand
  • Apply
  • Analyze
  • Synthesis.
  • Evaluate
  • Create

Thinking Leads to Conscious Thinking

As we have discussed above, conscious thinking and thinking processes are linked. We need to go through the whole procedure so many times to let the conscious thinking happen organically. It is important that our thinking follows the sequence of the thought process and completes all levels in order to get to the level of Conscious thinking.

Once we start thinking consciously, we can start living consciously.

Sounds good? What do you think?

But why are we talking about thinking consciously and living consciously?

Is it just important for immigrants to live consciously?

We are going to discuss more about all these questions in the upcoming articles. I would love to listen to your thoughts.

Conclusion

I will conclude with the importance of thinking and conscious thinking. William James said,”Man can alter his life by altering his thinking”.

“How To Live Consciously As An Ambitious Immigrant In The USA” will discuss more about immigrants’ lives and the factors which are involved to shape their lives.

You can ask any questions related to the topic? You can share your stories here. I will create a separate page to publish all the immigrants’ stories shared here.

I am planning to cover some basic topics but we can go to touch the depths if you get involved.

So, share your awesome story! I am willing to listen and so are other immigrants.

And also tell me why do we need to live consciously as an ambitious immigrant?

Shahlla
